Lots of famous people make the scene at New York Fashion Week. Thus, it’s hard to really stand out from the crowd. What’s cool about Rihanna is that she didn’t even really try, but she still remained a big presence and got the media to sit up and take notice.
How’d she do it? In the words of Yogurt from Spaceballs, merchandising, merchandising! As MTV News reported, her Stance socks were being given away in NYC parks. So, too, were samples of her RiRi perfume, apparently in generous amounts.
She even had a pop-up store to sell the first shoe from her Puma by Rihanna collection (the Creeper … I mean, that’s the name of the shoe!), and she tweeted that it sold out. I’d hashtag that #winning if anyone still did that.
Jokes aside, it’s hard to argue with MTV’s assertion that Rihanna won New York Fashion Week without making any show appearances. Indeed, she wasn’t even in attendance, or at least not out in the crowd, for the one fashion show that included a performance by her supposed new beau, Travi$ Scott.
Rihanna did it her way, and she made it look effortless. And really, isn’t that how she does most things? It’s Rihanna’s world, even at Fashion Week, and the rest of us are just living in it.
